About Volunteering

We are seeking volunteers to help with the Children's Book Fair in 2009!
When: November 14-15, 2009, from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

The 18th Annual Connecticut Children's Book Fair will be held on Saturday and Sunday, November 14-15, 2009, from 8:45 am to 5 pm. However, volunteers working the first shift are asked to arrive at 8:30 am for their assignments. This is an opportunity to meet and listen to children's authors and illustrators and purchase autographed books. The Book Fair benefits the Northeast Children's Literature Collections in Archives & Special Collections at the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, University of Connecticut.

As always, we need volunteers to help with this year's event. Volunteer shifts are usually two or more hours, between 9:30 am and 5 pm. Volunteers' responsibilities may include:

Working at the information desk
Working with children's arts and crafts activities
Serving as a door greeter
Volunteering as a costume character or tour guide for characters

Every effort will be made to place volunteers with their preferred tasks and times.

Volunteer Interests
Please select your preference for tasks during the event. (Note: You may select more than one task.)

Art Table Monitor---Help children with arts and crafts activities, refresh art supplies as needed
Costume Character---Dress up as a character! We supply the costumes and you walk around in them. You will actually spend about 30 minutes at a time in the costume. Breaks will be provided so that you will not be in costume for two hours consecutively. Also, if you agree to wear a costume, please bring a t-shirt and shorts to wear underneath the costume. You may also wish to bring along a towel. Please indicate your height so that we may match you with a costume that fits appropriately. I am approximately feet inches tall.
Tour Guide for Characters---Help guide costume characters as they walk around
Door Greeter---Hand out programs and direct people to activities
Information Desk Staff---Answer questions, provide general assistance
